(KMOV) – Col. Jon Belmar on Friday was announced the next St. Louis County police chief.
The St. Louis County Board of Police Commissioners met at 8 a.m. to discuss the candidates for a final time before announcing Belmar as the new chief.
Belmar, who's been with the St. Louis County Police Department since 1986, was working as commanding officer of the special operations division.
“I am looking forward to working with all of the citizens we serve, both in unincorporated St. Louis County, as well as our many contract municipalities," Delmar said in a statement released Friday afternoon. "I’m extremely excited to lead all of the fine men and women of this Department who protect and serve our community each day in such a professional manner.”
Another candidate was Col. Kenneth Cox the head of criminal investigations, which handles crime scenes, drug enforcement and crimes against persons.
The third candidate was Lt. Col. Kenneth Gregory, who started with the department in 1979 and is currently the head of operations for all seven county precincts.
