(KMOV.com) – Three suspects face charges after a man was shot to death in front of his children at a Belleville apartment on Sunday.

Anthony Allen and Amanda Kent were each charged with first-degree murder. Another suspect, Brittney Moore, was charged with obstructing justice after she allegedly lied to authorities.

Police say Allen and Kent were robbing 25-year-old Darrin Hayes when they shot him at his apartment in the 5900 block of Gateway Industrial.

Hayes was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say they were tipped off about a getaway vehicle. Officers later spotted it near the St. Clair Co. jail and found Allen inside when they pulled it over.

Authorities say they arrested Allen on other charges and later found items in the vehicle that led to the murder charges. The other two suspects were arrested on Tuesday. All are being held at the St. Clair County Jail.

According to police, Moore was charged after she lied to officers when asked where Allen was hiding.

Bruce Mitzan, who lives in the apartment underneath where Hayes was shot, said he heard noises come from above when the shooting occurred Sunday.

“It was two rapid fire and then three rapid fire,” Mitzan said, “Like bang, bang, bang, bang and then it sounded like a tussle.”

Mitzan said he checked out the scene and his worst fears were confirmed.

“I walked out the door,” said Mitzan, “and there’s police, Illinois State Police, St. Clair County, ambulance [and] crime scene.”

Neighbors said Hayes lived in the apartment for about a year and kept mostly to himself.

“He was a young man, really nice guy,” Mitzan said, “He just got married about a week ago. His kids were up there at the time. Just terrible.”

Authorities say 14 detectives from neighboring agencies assisted in the investigation.
