(KMOV.com) -- One driver was killed and a second remains in serious condition after a head-on crash that shut down traffic on Interstate 70 near Wright City on Friday afternoon.
The accident happened on westbound I-70 at the 199 mile marker, near the intersection with Highway W, around 4 p.m.
Jill Gunsten, 26, was traveling eastbound on I-70 when she lost control of her Honda Fit and veered into oncoming lanes of traffic, according to police. Gunsten's vehicle collided with a Toyota Celica, which was then rear-ended by a Toyota Corolla.
Gunsten was later pronounced dead at Mercy hospital. The driver of the Celica, 48-year-old Leonard Gregis, remains in serious condition.
Traffic was backed up for miles on the interstate while emergency crews cleared the scene. All lanes were reopened within an hour of the accident.
