ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- Throngs of shoppers will be on the road Friday in search of Black Friday bargains. Traffic will be heavy around shopping centers and patience might be as important to bring along as a credit card.

The same Missouri Department of Transportation engineers who keep an eye on rush hour traffic will be using all the agency’s traffic cameras to monitor shopping traffic from their traffic management center on Highway 141 and Highway 40.

If there are significant traffic backup, MoDOT will use message boards to alert drivers and suggest alternate routes.

Plus, if the problem is on a major arterial route, MoDOT could even change the timing on traffic signals to help keep traffic flowing.
