JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Drought-stricken Missouri is preparing for what has been an unusual occurrence this summer—a couple of rainy days.

Forecasters expect remnants of tropical storm Isaac to drop several inches of rain in Missouri, starting before dawn Friday in southwestern Missouri and then moving into central and eastern Missouri. The National Weather Service in St. Louis says the storm could drop 3 to 5 inches of rain in that region.

Soaking rains are expected to help with Missouri’s drought but forecasters do not believe it will break it.

Still, the rainy forecast has prompted several Missouri schools to move up kickoff for high school football games.

A weakening Isaac moved inland Thursday after coming ashore earlier this week in Louisiana. It was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm.
