ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- The low Mississippi River levles are presenting challenges for some animals while benefitting for others.

The drought has left the middle Mississippi River near record lows. Because of this, some fish are being driven out of normally safe areas into side channels where they are more exposed.

Birds that nest on sandbar islands are benefitting from the low levels, however. With the water so low, they have more nesting areas.
