(KMOV) -- A 28-year-old mother was charged with the death of her 18-month-old son.
Melissa Jackson was charged with 1st Degree Murder charges and Felony Abuse of a Child.
On Wednesday Marquell Jackson's body was discovered in a dumpster at an apartment complex in south St. Louis.
Family members of the boy called St. Louis police around 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday to report that Marquell was missing.
Police investigated and determined that there were no signs of forced entry at the family's home, so they canvassed the 2300 block of South Jefferson near the intersection of South Jefferson and Shenandoah.
A short time later, investigators found Marquell's body in a dumpster behind the apartment complex.
Preliminary autopsy results indicate Marquell was beaten. His injuries included trauma to his brain, ligature marks with corresponding injury to the inside of his neck, multiple rib fractures and multiple liver lacerations resulting in internal bleeding. Authorities said his death was caused by someone striking or strangling him
