(KMOV) -- Austin Redd was in the gym at Francis Howell Middle School at about 1 p.m. when he collapsed.

Austin is a seventh grader and, according to the school nurse, had no known health problems. He collapsed after a few warm up laps. His teacher called for help and the school resource officer and nurse started CPR.

It was also the first time school nurse Lynne Finnerty had to use the defibrillator. In fact, it was the first time the Francis Howell schools had to use on of the machines in the eight years they have had them.

It's still not clear what caused Austin's collapse.
