Ferguson, Mo. (KMOV) – Metro has released plans for a new MetroBus station in North County.
The new bus station will be in Ferguson, between W. Florissant and New Halls Ferry Rd., on Pershall Dr.
Plans for the station include creating an indoor passenger waiting area, public restrooms, digital message boards and a concession area. The station will also have 10 bus bays, two Metro Call-A-Ride van bays and a free Park-Ride lot. One out of every five Metro riders is based within a three to four mile radius of where ground was broken for the new transit center, Tuesday. Officials say the new station will make for a more direct and faster commute.
Phase I of the project will begin this fall and the transit center will open in fall 2015. Phase II of the project will be built on an empty property to the east of the new station. Phase II will provide an additional maintenance garage that will accommodate 70 MetroBus vehicles, 25 Metro Call-A-Ride vans, 13 repair bays and an on-site vehicle dispatch center.
Metro will hold public meetings this fall for input on what new service routes should look like. They said North St. Louis County is its fastest growing market for public transit.
