(KMOV.com) - The price to ride a MetroLink will now cost more.

A single ride will now cost $2.50, with weekly passes increasing from $25 to $27. Monthly passes will increase by $6, from $72 to $175, and semester passes will increased by $25 to $175.

“About 80 percent of the public transit is paid for by the taxpayers, the riders pay for 20 percent of it, so we have an obligation to the public who supports us so strongly with the tax dollars to get a fare structure that is fair to riders and taxpayers,” said Metro President and CEO John Nations.

Metro’s plan calls for raising fares by a small percentage every two years to keep up with costs.
