GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOV) – A Granite City woman is accused of robbing one person and trying to rob two others during three separate incidents in the Metro East on Sunday.

Amy Zielinski, 34, was charged with felony armed robbery and two felony counts of attempted aggravated robbery.

According to police, Zielinski walked into a BP Amoco in the 1300 block of E. Chain of Rocks around 12 p.m. Zielinski, who was armed with what looked like handgun, robbed the business and fled in a red Pontiac Sunfire.

Police said about 20 minutes later, Zielinski walked up to a man who was selling pecans in front of Gene’s Barber Shop in the 100 block of Lenox. According to police, Zielinski grabbed her waistband like she had a weapon and demanded the victim’s money.

The man handed over his wallet, which was empty. Zielinski gave hit back to him and drove away.

Minutes later, Zielienski allegedly went to 508 Variety in the 500 block of E. Chain of Rocks in Granite City and asked the clerk for a pack of cigarettes.

As the employee was reaching for the cigarettes, Zielinski lifted up her shirt displaying her waistband and told the clerk to give her all the money.

The clerk, who thought Zielinski was joking, did not hand over any money and she left the store. She then drove away in the Sunfire.

Police said about four hours later, officers stopped a vehicle that matched the suspect’s description.

They searched Zielinski’s car and found a toy handgun.

She was taken into custody, where she remains on $100,000 bond.
