(KMOV) -- A Cottage Hills, Ill., man was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon Thursday.
James Staggs left his house at about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, swinging a baseball bat at family members with police present. He was ordered to drop the bat and was arrested.
Police learned about a gun Staggs' owned and found it. Since Staggs is a convicted felon for a prior burglary charge, he is not allowed to possess a firearm.
Staggs was also issued a misdemeanor charge for disorderly contact.
Bail for Staggs is set at $40,000.
