(KMOV.com )  - The legal guardian of a Metro East 6-year-old girl who went missing said police told her there is nothing they can do.

Nakia Price said her niece, Sheref Doumbe, has been missing since Sunday. Price said Doumbe’s mother was spending time with the child before leaving town with her.

“She came and took her without my permission,” Price said. “Anything that happens to her, no matter what, is my responsibility.”

Price told News 4 Doumbe has been under her custody since a court ruling that occurred in February. Price also said police have not been helping her bring Doumbe home.

“Why haven't you put out an amber alert for her that's what I want to know,” Doumbe said.

Fairview Heights police told News 4 Doumbe is safe with her mother in New Jersey. Authorities also said the Illinois State’s Attorney must determine how to go forward because no crime was committed and because the issue is a family dispute.
