Man who escaped mental health facility in St. Louis turns self in

(KMOV.com) -- Police have confirmed that a missing mental health facility patient has turned himself in. Staff members originally reported a 35-year-old white male missing from the St. Louis Psychiatric Center in south St. Louis Thursday morning.

According to officials, the patient walked off the grounds of the facility on Arsenal Street around 10 a.m. while on the way to his work site at the facility. Staff members said they noticed the patient was missing when he did not show up for work.

Police state the patient was in the facility because of charges for assault on law enforcement and armed criminal action.

Authorities said he turned himself in around 5 p.m.

There is no word on why the man walked off from the grounds.
