(KMOV) – An employee of a Ballwin McDonald’s and a suspected thief were both struck by vehicles after the employee chased the suspect out of the restaurant early Wednesday morning.

According to police, an employee of the McDonald’s in the 12500 block of Manchester Rd. was on break around 5:15 a.m. when he noticed his cell phone was missing from the charger.

The employee told the store manager, who saw on in-store surveillance that a customer still in the restaurant took the phone.

Restaurant employees walked up to the suspect and asked for the phone back and he complied. The customer then grabbed the phone battery and memory chip and ran out of the store.

A female employee chased after the suspect, but was struck by a car on Manchester. Police said she was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to authorities, the suspect was hit by another car, but kept running. He was caught by Ballwin police officers a short time later and taken into custody.

Police said the drivers involved in the incident stayed at the scene and were cooperative.

Charges against the suspect, whose identity was not released, are pending.
