(KMOV.com) -- Some East St. Louis residents encountered dangerous driving conditions when heavy rain caused flooding in the area several weeks ago. With storms again dumping rain, Mayor Alvin Parks told News 4 the city has made changes to ensure streets remain dry.

"I think we are more proactive this time around, and I think when you see a situation that plays up the fact that this sewer needs to be cleaned out, you go out there an get it cleaned out," said Parks.

Several streets had standing water on Friday, but none were considered impassable. Mayor Parks said efforts to clear sewer drains and replace pump stations have helped prevent any substantial flooding.

Parks said the city has collected $100,000 more during the first quarter of 2013 than during the same period in 2012. He said that money has been spent on extra repairs and services.
