MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. (KMOV) – The city of Maryland Heights is trying to speed up rebuilding areas hit by the Good Friday tornado.

About 800 homes were damaged in Maryland Heights, and some of the affected residents would have to apply for special exemptions to rebuild or repair homes the way they were before the tornado.

This includes aesthetics like the size of the house in relation to the lot, the use of carports, the placement of fences.

The city says it will relax its “neighborhood character” requirements, but building codes or anything having to do with safety must be completed according to current laws.
