(KMOV) – While some school district in the St. Louis area are faced with budget cuts, the Maplewood-Richmond Heights district is adding teachers and classroom.
School district officials say its student population is growing at every campus, but the elementary school is growing the fastest.
More students means more teachers are needed, and the district says it’s adding five.
The district is also building a two-room modular building over the summer.
During the 2008-2009 school year, there were only 365 elementary students. There were 479 students this year, and 520 are expected in 2014-2015.
The Maplewood-Richmond Heights Board of Education has reconvened its long-range facilities planning committee to meet later this month to begin looking at possible scenarios to meet its long-term space needs.
