(KMOV) – A man and woman face charges after the man’s allegedly beat his 5-year-old son to death in Glen Carbon on Sunday.
Tavon Ludy, 24, was charged Tuesday with two counts of first-degree murder and aggravated battery to a child. His fiancée, Toria Coleman, was charged with endangering the life or health of a child.
According deputies, Ludy was with his son, Torian Whittaker, at their home in the 2110 block of Rose Knoll Ln. around 10:20 p.m. when he punched the boy in the chest.
Whittaker was transported to Oliver C. Anderson Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Deputies said an investigation revealed Ludy physically disciplined Whittaker and his 7-year-old brother on a routine basis over minor problems.
According to investigators, Coleman was aware of the beatings but did nothing to stop it.
Whittaker’s 7-year-old brother was taken into protective custody by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
Ludy remains in custody on a $550,000 bond. Coleman’s bond was set at $50,000.
