PINE LAWN, Mo. (KMOV) – Police say a suspected drunk driver convicted of abandoning a friend’s corpse in 2011 led officers on a high-speed chase early Thursday morning.
Police said Paul Tripp, 28, was charged with DWI and resisting arrest. His bail was set at $40,000.
According to police, Tripp drove over 130 mph as he led police on a chase through several St. Louis-area municipalities around 3 a.m. The chase ended after he crashed his vehicle in a field near the intersection of Missouri Bottom and Aubuchon.
Trip was sentenced in February, 2012 to two years in prison for abandoning a corpse after he left behind his friend, Valerie Butler. She died from heroin overdose.
Trip was also serving a five-year sentence for a drug possession with intent to distribute charge in December 2010. The two-year sentence and five-year sentence were to run concurrently.
Officials said Tripp began serving his prison sentence on July 26, 2011. He was paroled on Sept. 10 after serving 13 months in prison.
