BENTON, Ill. (AP) -- One of two men accused of slashing a woman's throat during a southern Illinois home invasion has been sentenced to the maximum 30 years in prison.

Twenty-year-old Antonio Smith was sentenced Friday in Franklin County. He pleaded guilty in November to attempted murder and home invasion.

Prosecutors say Smith and Jacob Bohannon attacked 59-year-old Susan Zettler in April of last year in her Sesser home, taking her purse and car and fleeing after cutting the woman's throat. She survived.

The Southern Illinoisan of Carbondale reports Smith told the judge he's now spiritual and hoped the Zettler family could forgive him.

Bohannon has pleaded not guilty and awaits trial.

Both men also are accused of violently stealing a man's wallet in a Mulkeytown home invasion two weeks before the Zettler attack.
