(KMOV) – Police say one of the two people killed in a crash on a Jefferson County highway on Tuesday had just graduated police school.
According to officials, 25-year-old James Sybert was days away from beginning a job as deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
Police say Sybert was driving on southbound on Highway 21 near Shady Valley in the Imperial area around 12:15 p.m. when he was struck by 82-year-old Mary Burke, who was driving the wrong away.
Authorities say Burke exited Highway M and drove the wrong way for several miles before crashing into Sybert’s vehicle.
Burke, of St. Louis, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Sybert, was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
