BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- A judge in southwestern Illinois has found a man not guilty by reason of mental illness or defect in the 2008 stabbing death of his grandmother.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports that St. Clair County Associate Judge Vince Lopinot returned the verdict Tuesday against Logan Dyjak, 25, of Belleville.
Dyjak was accused of killing Judith Bauer, 66, in the family home several hours after she returned from a local hospital where she was being treated for a recent stroke.
Investigators said Bauer had been strangled and stabbed, and there was a puncture wound in her neck.
Police later found Dyjak walking along a Caseyville road, carrying a large knife.
Dyjak now is in the custody of the Illinois Department of Human Services.
