(KMOV) -- Police are looking for a gunman who shot and killed a man who fired warning shots into the air in north St. Louis Sunday night.

Authorities say they responded to a report of a shooting in the First Block of Lewis Place around 7:30 a.m. and found 31-year-old Jerome Casson unconscious suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Casson was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to police, Casson had been arguing with acquaintances earlier in the night when he withdrew a gun and started firing into the air. That’s when the suspect, a black man, shot Casson in the chest.

The suspect fled the scene in a four-door white Pontiac Grand Prix.

The investigation is ongoing.
