ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The St. Louis music community is mourning the loss of a longtime fixture who died over the weekend after falling into an open elevator shaft.
Bob Reuter died in the accident while moving into a loft near Washington and Tucker just before 2 p.m. Saturday.
Authorities say it was dark inside the elevator shaft. Reuter stepped in, assuming the elevator was there, and fell about 18 feet to his death.
Reuter was recently involved in a new band, Alley Ghost. He also hosted a weekly radio program, “Bob’s Scratchy Records,” on KDHX-FM.
Investigators are now checking to see if the elevator was up to code.
