(KMOV.com) – Charges have been filed against a man police say tried raping a woman in south St. Louis on Tuesday. The same suspect is also accused of raping a woman hours before.

Tommy Bell, 48, was charged Wednesday with first-degree attempted rape. He is being held in the St. Louis City Jail on $100,000 bond.

Police say a woman had just dropped her child off at school and was walking in the 3900 block of Pennsylvania Ave. around 9:30 a.m. when Bell walked past her.

Authorities say she reached her front porch and Bell ran up the steps and began struggling with the victim. Bell then pulled the woman’s pants down to her ankles while she was on her back kicking and screaming.

Police say Bell had managed to get one pant leg off when the woman’s screams alerted family members, who rushed outside the home to help.

Bell ran down the steps and walked down the street, but was apprehended by police about a block away.

Police say Bell is also suspected of raping a woman in the 3900 block of Keokuk hours before, though no charges have been filed in the case.
