(KMOV) – A man faces murder charges after police say he assaulted a suspect who died at the hospital following a shooting at a Florissant bar.

Douglas Layman, 37, was charged Monday with second-degree murder.

According to police, two people were shot by Edward Mueller, 63, after an argument inside of Pirate’s Cove Bar in the 400 block of Howdershell Road around 11:30 p.m. Friday.

Police say Layman, who was the brother of one of the shooting victims, assaulted Mueller after he was disarmed. Mueller was taken to the hospital where he later died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen.

Layman was taken into custody for the assault. Mueller’s cause of death was later determined a homicide after an autopsy showed he died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen.

The condition of the two wounded men was not immediately known.

Layman’s bond was set at $250,000, cash only.
