WASHINGTON PARK, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- A man accused of holding a teenage girl captive in his Washington Park home has been charged with multiple felonies, including criminal sexual abuse.
St. Clair County Attorney Brendan Kelly announced the charges at a press conference held Saturday evening.
Steven Johnson, 25, has been charged with promoting prostitution, aggravated criminal sexual abuse, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and two other drug charges related to the case. Kelly said Johnson had sex with the teenager, who was underage at the time.
Johnson, who is also known by his street name "Psycho," was previously convicted of residential burglary in 2005.
His mother, Owida Johnson, 54, was also charged with two counts of child endangerment related to unsanitary conditions in the home.
Last week, the unidentified victim told police she was repeatedly beaten and raped while being held captive at Johnson's home. She told police the sexual assault led to a pregnancy.
Police went to the home, located in the 1400 block of Kingshighway, on Thursday to make arrests and retrieve the victim’s 2-year-old boy.
Steven Johnson is being held on $2 million bail. Kelly would not say whether the prositution charge is related to the teenager.
