(KMOV) – A man was expected to be arraigned in St. Charles County court on Monday for his alleged role in a Feb. road-rage wreck that left a man dead.
Kirk Mueller faces DWI and manslaughter charges for the Feb. 19 incident.
According to police, Mueller was driving a Ford F-350 with two friends when he exchanged insults with Derek Cliffe at a stop light on Main St. in St. Charles.
Police say someone in Mueller’s truck threw a handful of coins at Cliffe’s car. Cliffe’s friend then threw something back.
Authorities say Mueller followed Cliffe on Interstate 70 into Maryland Heights. Cliffe got off the interstate and headed south on the Maryland Heights Expressway. He then made a sudden U-turn.
According to police, Mueller was still following Cliffe and veered his truck left. The truck then crossed the center line and broadsided Cliffe’s car.
Cliffe, 26, was taken to the hospital, where he later died. Mueller and his passengers were not hurt. Police say Mueller’s blood alcohol content was at least 0.152 percent, almost twice the legal limit, when the wreck occurred.
