(KMOV) – A man is accused of using a stun gun on a woman before trying to rape her in Madison County earlier this month.

John Hawkins, 48, was charged June 11 with three counts of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery and attempted aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

According to court documents, Hawkins kidnapped and held a woman against her will at a home in Maryville, Ill. on June 7.

Authorities said he then used a stun gun to subdue the victim. Depuities said that’s when he tried to remove the woman’s shirt so he could perform a sexual act on her.

Hawkins was later arrested and remains in custody on a $300,000 bond.
