(KMOV) – A man is accused of carrying around a sawed-off shotgun in the same neighborhood police were targeting on Wednesday hoping to stop an escalation of violence.

Jermail Corley, 33, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

According to police, an officer spotted Corley in possession of a loaded sawed-off shot gun in the 4800 block of 20th St in the College Hill neighborhood around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said the gun was “readily capable of lethal use.”

About 80 St. Louis police officers converged in full force on the College Hill neighborhood Wednesday in hopes of cutting down a recent rash of crime in the area.

Plans include a roll call in the streets, use of police dogs, even door-to-door pleas to residents for help in solving shootings that killed three people and left another badly wounded in recent weeks.

Residents and police believe the violence involves a neighborhood feud over a woman.
