(KMOV)—Police have an alleged armed robbery suspect in custody after leading police from Missouri and Illinois on a 45 minute pursuit across the bi-state area.

According to police, the suspect allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint in the parking lot of the Brentwood Promenade just before 1 p.m. The woman's purse was stolen near Shane Co.

Police say the man pulled up to a woman walking in the parking lot and demanded her purse at gun point. She gave it up and a witness called police.

“She's pretty shook up as you can imagine,” said Brentwood police Sergeant Jim McIntyre"

The suspect then fled the Promenade in a white Chevrolet Impala, leading police on a pursuit into the metro area along Interstate 64 and I-70.

Several times during the chase the suspect was seen going the wrong way along the interstate, travelling nearly 70 mph according to police.

Officers used spike strips to slow the car as the suspect exited highway 70 at Broadway, blowing out the front two tires.

Eyewitness Mary Williams saw the car after the suspect attempted to escape on Broadway.

“I seen the car chase and all these cops behind him and I seen the tire was busted out, so I'm like you ain't going nowhere else,” she said.

The man drove with blown tires all the way to Church Street in north St. Louis County where the chase ended on the 7900 block.

Police hope that the suspect’s apprehension may help close other robbery cases in the area.

“He's a bad guy. We don't know exactly how bad yet though,” said Sergeant McIntyre. “But anytime he's either implying or flourishing a weapon and taking purses...that's somebody we want of the street for sure."
