(KMOV.com) - Allsup Incorporated announced it will be cutting 90 jobs.

A majority of the employees being laid off live in the Belleville and St. Louis area, said a company spokesperson.  The company said the layoffs are necessary because of trends with the Social Security disability program and other factors.

Allsup provides support for customers with disabilities and seniors, and employs about 600.

"It's sad.  I know somebody who works there.  She's good, and she's a good person. And it's sad that it's happening, especially 90 like you said, that's a lot of people at one time,” said O’Fallon resident Sharon Carthy.

All of the terminated employees were offered severance packages according to a statement provided by the company.
