ST. PETERS (KMOV.com) -- Rush hour along I-70 in St. Peters is a daily nightmare for drivers, and a new $9.4 Million plan aims to change that.  The city of St. Peters is proposing making the outer roads one way between the Cave Springs exit and Highway 79.

The one way outer roads would travel the same direction as I-70 on each side.  The plan would add loops to the businesses on each side to ensure drivers have easy access.  The loops would take you behind the businesses.

The plan would add multiple “slip ramps” to I-70 between the Cave Springs exit and the Mid Rivers Mall exit.

“That’s the key on this project is to provide more access points without building more interchanges onto 70,” said Russ Batzel, St. Peters Transportation Manager.  “You would have alternate ways to get on and off the highway, and improve access to business. Because one of the main things we’re trying to accomplish is better and easier access to business along the corridor.”

The other major change would be a “Texas Turnaround” added at Mid Rivers Mall Drive.  The turnaround allows traffic from the outer road to loop over the interstate without a traffic light and then proceed the other direction on the opposite outer road.

Planning and design would be done in 2013 and construction could begin in 2014.
