MOUNT CARMEL, Il (KMOV.com) --  The USGS registered a magnitude 3.6 earthquake northwest of Mount Carmel just before 5:30 Tuesday evening.

The earthquake was minor, and isn’t expected to cause any significant damage or injury.

Earthquakes aren’t unheard of in the area, as it sits in the Ozark Dome Region which covers parts of Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas and stretches from Indianapolis and St. Louis to Memphis. Moderately frequent earthquakes occur at irregular intervals throughout the region.
