(KMOV.com) – News 4 has learned that several University City firefighters will be suspended for three months for appearing in a campaign photo.

Six University City firefighters appeared in a photo with a person who ran for University City Council, and the photos were later used in a campaign flyer. A firetruck appeared in the background and all of the firefighters were wearing fire gear, but it was unclear if they were wearing official University City firefighters gear.

It is against Missouri law for first responders to participate in political campaigns while on duty. In early April, University City officials said they would look into the matter to determine if the firefighters would be punished.

All of the firefighters are being suspended without pay. The firefighter’s union said it will comment on the matter soon.
