(KMOV.com) - A local catering hall that is popular for weddings has closed, but not before the owners ran off with clients' money.
Several brides who were supposed to have their wedding reception at the Debboniare Banquet and Catering Hall contacted News 4. Not only do they not have a place to celebrate their nuptials, but they do not have refunds for the deposits they placed down.
Debboniare has thrown a wrench into the wedding plans for Jenna Paul. This past weekend, the reception facility suddenly closed down leaving her with no place for her June 2013 wedding.
Paul says Debboniare did not tell her it was closing, even though it took a deposit from her and her fiance.
"The only thing that upset me was the fact of losing a thousand dollar deposit as well as everyone else not having the availability," Paul said. "I have eight months until my wedding what about everyone else who has a month or two?"
News 4's Matt Szcesny went to Debboniare and found the doors locked. Workers at a nearby store say the gas and water have been turned off. On the internet, Debboniare's website no longer exists and the business' phone is disconnected.
News 4 went to the home of the owner in St. Charles County but nobody answered the door.
The Missouri Attorney General's Office told News 4 customers can file complaints with that office. It also says it will take legal action if it is necessary, to try and get everyone's money back.
