(KMOV) -- The south St. Louis County campaign office of Chris Brown is hardly the place you would expect to hear about immigration.

Brown, a conservative candidate for the 97th District in the Missouri State House, certainly believes immigration is an issue. This Saturday he is hosting an immigration forum with Chris Simcox, the co-founder of the Minuteman Project, a group that privately patrols the U.S. border.

According to Brown, immigration is an economic issue, but critics say it's all for show. Even Brown admits that his friend, Chris Simcox, brings tension to the issue.

"If you think it's just affecting border states, it's going to affect your state and your community, and that's why I am coming to Missouri to support Chris Brown," says Simcox.

There are eight candidates for this House seat, and at least one Democrat doesn't think immigration has a place here. Democratic candidate Rudy Pulido says he doesn't think Missourians appreciate a candidate who invites outsiders here to tell them how to run the state.
