(KMOV) – The owner of Ice and Fuel West in west St. Louis County says the new smoking ban is forcing him to close his business, even before the ban takes effect.

Dan Mohan says if he has to close, he wants it to be on his own terms. He’s owned Ice and Fuel West for 13 years, and to him, smoking and sports go hand-in-hand.

His lease will be up in a few weeks, and Mohan says he chooses to close because the risk is too great.

Not only did Mohan have to break the news to his customers, he also had to tell his brother, the bartender.

They both say they will miss the customers the most.

The last day of business will be June 4th.

Another bar in St. Louis County is taking a much different approach. It’s voluntarily going smoke free before the county-wide ban.

The owner of Frailey’s in south St. Louis County says they are doing it out of concern for the health of their customers and employees.
