ST. ANN (KMOV) – The back of a shopping center was damaged when strong winds knocked down tree limbs in St. Ann on Thursday.
Officials said it happened in a strip center in the 10800 block of St. Charles Rock Road, just east of Lindbergh.
Workers said they saw a bright flash and immediately heard a loud boom before the lights went out.
“It got really dark, the winds picked up,” said Latoya Phillips. “The door to our business was open and I pulled on it but the wind was so strong it took five minutes to close it. I thought the wind was going to pick up cars. I went back in and the next thing the lights flickered and then they went out.
The electric service line to the building was knocked to the ground along with several tree limbs.
An Ameren worker was on the scene early Thursday evening trying to restore electricity to the building.
The building sustained minor damage caused by the falling tree limbs.
No injuries were reported.
