(KMOV) – Lightning is being blamed for starting a fire at a St. Louis firefighter’s house early Monday morning.

The fire broke out at a home in the 6900 block of Winona in south St. Louis around 3:30 a.m.

According to officials, the firefighter was sitting at home late Sunday night when he heard a loud bang and saw a flash of light.

Several breakers inside the home were tripped and the firefighter smelt electrical burning, but did not see any flames.

The family went to bed and were sleeping when smoke detectors alerted them of the fire. Additional firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished flames in the attic and living room area, which sustained extensive damage.

No injuries were reported.
