(KMOV) -- Leadwood, Missouri police Chief, Jerry Hicks, 69, died on Sunday evening due to injuries suffered in a car accident.
Leadwood Police said, on November 29th, Hicks was on duty heading to a Potosi Prison to pick up members of an inmate work crew when he hit an icy patch on State Highway 8 in Washington County.
According to reports, Hicks lost control of his car and hit a tree. He was transported to Washington County Hospital and later airlifted to St. John's in St. Louis. He died on Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
The Missouri Highway Patrol's report shows Hicks was not wearing his seatbelt but the coroner said Hicks' injuries are all consistent with wearing a seatbelt.
Leadwood Police think Hicks' seatbelt may have been cut off by first responders.
Hicks is survived by his adult children.
