(KMOV.com) – Officials say fireworks may be to blame for an early morning house fire in Washington Park Friday.

The blaze broke out around 4 a.m. in the 5700 block of North Park Drive.

The fire comes just days after Washington Park laid off its full time firefighters leaving a skeleton crew of volunteers to man the fire station overnight.

Interim Chief Mark Norris wants people to know the department is still there to make sure everyone stays safe.

“We’re still here for them,” he said. “Best interests at heart.” The home is a total loss, but no one was injured.
