Edwardsville, IL (KMOV.com) – A St. Louis man is charged with attacking deputies at the Madison County Jail in Edwardsville.

The alleged attack happened Wednesday afternoon while deputies were performing routine rounds and checking the cell holding Justin Creasey, 28.

Authorities say deputies found the window to Creasey’s cell was covered by a piece of paper. Deputies say they ordered Creasey to remove the paper, but he failed to do so.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s when deputies entered the cell Creasey allegedly threw a cup of some sort of liquid at the deputies, stabbed one of the deputies in the back of the head with a pencil and placed another in a headlock.

Deputies managed to subdue Creasey.

The deputy that was stabbed by the pencil suffered a cut to his head; another deputy suffered an abrasion to his face. Both were treated by the jail medical staff.

Bond for Creasey has been set at $100,000.
