EAST ALTON, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A husband and wife are dead and two others injured following a wreck in East Alton, Illinois Friday morning.
Police said a gold SUV was traveling on westbound Route 141 when it struck the back of a white truck, sending it into the opposite lane.
The truck then collided head-on with a gold minivan heading eastbound on Route 141.
Authorities said the driver of the minivan, identified as 80-year-old Leonard McCormick, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, Shirley McCormick, was airlifted to Barnes-Jewish, where she later died.
The driver of the truck and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to an area hospital, where they remain in unknown condition.
Route 143 from Route 3 to the Clark Bridge was closed while crews investigated and cleared the scene.
Funeral arrangements for the McCormicks are being planned at Elias Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
