(KMOV) – A MetroLink train collided with a vehicle in north St. Louis County Friday morning.

The accident happened just north of the St. Charles Rock Rd. MetroLink station around 7:50 a.m.

Police say a man was driving his vehicle on North Market Crossing and tried to stop when he approached the MetroLink tracks, but slid onto the tracks.

Metro officials say the vehicle almost slid through entirely, but part of the vehicle stayed on the tracks. That's when a MetroLink train came through and clipped the vehicle.

Authorities say the driver of the car was not hurt. Eight passengers on the train suffered what appeared to be minor injuries. Officials said at least six ambulances were dispatched to the scene and took the victims to the hospital as a precaution.

Because of the wreck, westbound passengers on the red line were shuttled by bus between UMSL South and the Rock Road stations.
