(KMOV) – Police in St. Charles say they arrested a woman after she sprayed a security guard who was trying to stop her from shoplifting.

Police arrested Chasity Tanksley, 38, after she allegedly used pepper-spray on a security guard who was trying to stop her stealing from a Gordmans store.

Police say more and more shoplifters in the St. Louis area have been using pepper spray as a means of escaping from security guards.

In May, Eureka police caught a shoplifting suspect who pepper-sprayed a shopper at Walmart while running from security.

Police also said another suspect pepper sprayed a security guard at Chesterfield Mall in March.
