CHICAGO (AP) -- Illinois Democrats are getting an important political do-over now that they are picking a new candidate for lieutenant governor after the primary winner dropped out due to a checkered past.
Gov. Pat Quinn has the rare opportunity to help pick his running mate, but on Monday he refused to say who was on his short list of potential partners.
Quinn also wouldn't say whether the eventual choice should be from downstate to balance the ticket.
Meanwhile, the politicking has revved up among those seeking a chance in November at the state's No. 2 job.
The spot opened up when Scott Lee Cohen announced over the weekend he would resign from the ticket.
It became widely known after Cohen's win that his ex-wife accused him of abuse in divorce papers and he had an altercation with an ex-girlfriend.
