(KMOV) – Every year, millions of tax dollars are wasted when food stamps are illegally sold for less than they’re worth.

Those who qualify for government assistance and qualify for food stamps can use them to buy food, but some cashiers say they know some recipients are committing fraud by selling the card for less than face value in return for cash.

Illinois State Representative Ron Stephens is cosponsoring a bill to thwart such fraud. He’s proposing that the state study on whether or not it is a good financial idea to put the photo of the recipient on the food stamp card.
