(KMOV.com) -- Icy streets in south St. Louis City caused problems for firefighters as they tried to contain a blaze in a warehouse Sunday morning.

St. Louis Firefighters said flames tore through a building in the 4500 block of South Broadway around 10 a.m., but they had trouble as the roads were covered in ice.

“This street here is just a solid sheet of ice, about 2 inches thick, so it was fairly hazardous,” said St. Louis Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson, ”We had one truck maneuvering slowly. He slid off the road because of the weight of the truck. We’ve got him out. He’s okay.”

Authorities said one man lived in the warehouse, but was not inside when the fire started.

Firefighters believe a wood-burning stove may have caused the fire.
